CARY, N.C., Nov. 26 — Three runners in the Shenandoah Valley posted strong showings at the highly competitive Southeast Region Nike Cross Country Championship on Saturday, Nov. 26 at the WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C.
Two weeks after an All-State, runner-up performance at the VHSL Class 2 cross country championships in Salem, Luray High School sophomore Davey Johnson finished as the runner-up in the boys “Rising Stars” (freshmen and sophomores) race at the Nike regional championship. He missed the top spot to a runner from Miami, Fla. by only three seconds. Johnson completed the 5K in 16:22.1, while Justin Ruiz won the race with a time of 16:19.1.
Other competitors from the Shenandoah Valley included two runners from Spotswood High School — senior Russell Kramer placed 44th in the boys Championship Divison, while junior Taylor Myers placed 54th in the girls Championship division.
The Southeast Region Nike Cross Country Championship featured a field of competitors from 11 states and Washington, D.C., including Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky and West Virginia.
