March 22, 1962 — A landslide at the big cut halfway up the east side of the Massanutten on U.S. 211 blocked traffic for several hours on Monday morning of this week, but was handily disposed of when local highway people manning equipment quickly got into action.
The slide occurred at the big embankment on the curve just below Dinty Moore’s, and one-way traffic was restored after a few hours.
Moisture from the heavy snow and re-occurring rain evidently loosened the soil, causing it to slide to the roadway blocking two lanes of traffic.
