Lewis Franklin Jenkins, 93, of Stanley, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2024.
He was born on November 24, 1930, in Stanley and was a son of the late Harry Franklin Jenkins and Minnie Ellen Meadows Jenkins.
Lewis was a sergeant for the Virginia Department of Corrections for 35 years. He was an Army veteran, having served in the Korean War, and was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church in Stanley.
His wife, Shirley Mae Comer Jenkins, died on May 16, 2002.
Lewis is survived by two sons, Gary F. Jenkins and wife Donna, and Dennis Jenkins and wife Carol, all of Stanley; two sisters, Artie Mae Hill of Illinois, and Diane Sue Stroupe and husband Kenny of Stanley; five grandchildren, Michael Jenkins, Sara Reed, Brooklynn Fridley, Drew Fridley and T.J. Banach; eight great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Stephen D. Jenkins; and two sisters, Julia Ann Jenkins and Rhoda Jenkins.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 15, at the Fellowship Baptist Church by the Rev. Donnie Sherfey. Burial will be held at the Jenkins Family Cemetery in Stanley, with military honors by the VFW Comer-Jones Post 621.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, at the church.
