Age 84, Luray, Va.
Loretta Gray Marston, age 84, passed away on Friday, July 8, 2022 at Page Memorial Hospital in Luray. Ret was born on March 19, 1938 in Stanley, and was the daughter of Glenn W. Gray, Sr. and Carmen Gray Woodward. She lived her entire life in Page County.
She married Douglas H. Marston on February 14, 1953, who died January 31, 1995. Early in her marriage, she worked at the Luray Textile, and in 1976, she opened a child-care center in her home. She cared for and helped raise many children, including her grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by her only child, her son, Timothy H. Marston.
She was a life member of the Page County Heritage Association, a member of the Luray Fire Department Auxiliary and a member of the Luray Christian Church, although health problems precluded her attending services for several years.
Ret loved crafts and created many beautiful items that she gave away to friends and relatives. Many of her needlework creations were sold at local craft fairs and at the Page County Heritage Festival. Her homemade jams, jellies and pickles were also popular sellers at these venues.
She is survived by three grandchildren, Timothy Chad Marston and wife, Jayme, Jonathan H. Marston and wife, Mikkayla, and Jennifer Marston Bond and husband Brett. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Brooklynn N. Marston, Damon K. Marston, Weston R. Marston, Jordon Zdunowski, Lily G. Bond, and one step-great-grandchild, Haiven Harrison. Also surviving is her niece, Heather and husband Rusty McCoy, and great nephews, Jackson and NoahMcCoy and great niece, Isabella McCoy, several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and many Marston nieces and nephews.
She was preceeded in death by her parents and two brothers, Glenn W. Gray, Jr. and Gregory Woodward and an infant granddaughter, Michelle Dawn Marston.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at 10 a.m. at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, officiated by Garland (Bubba) Gochenour. Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home to sign the register anytime on Monday or gather at the cemetery an hour prior to the service.
Donations in Ret’s memory may be made to the Luray Fire Department or a charity of choice.
