LURAY, June 6 — The Luray Ruritan Club met earlier this month at Lake Arrowhead for a picnic to celebrate its 75 years of existence. President Steve Cave welcomed everyone for the meal and conducted the meeting after cake was enjoyed.

The Luray Ruritan has about 20 active members and are in Zone 5, District 9 of the larger organization. The social club lives by the motto of “fellowship, goodwill, and community service”. Each year members hold chicken BBQ’s to raise funds that are returned to our own community. More than $8,000 comes back to a variety of nonprofits from five different committees.
Luray Ruritan meets once a month on the first Thursday in the Luray United Methodist Church Fellowship hall starting at 6 p.m. for a potluck meal and business meeting.
On June 6 at Lake Arrowhead, the club welcomed National President Rebecca Lane to greet members and give an inspiring message to keep up the good work.

The club was then presented a certificate from the District 9 Governor, David Grimm in acknowledgement of devoted and unselfish service which has resulted in making their community a better place to live.

A large display of club activities was on display along with other historical documents for members to view and recall the good times we have had. National President Rebecca Lane recognized four members in attendance that have been affiliated for more than 30 years — Bill Amonette, Mark Bauserman, Steve Cave, and Jon Sisler (shown in top photo).
The public is welcomed to contact us and enjoy one of our monthly meetings to learn more about what we are all about.
