LURAY — Knights of Columbus Paul V. Heller Council 8393 in Luray was awarded the distinction of Star Council, the international organization’s top honor for local councils.
The Star Council Award recognizes overall excellence in the areas of growing membership, promoting Knights of Columbus insurance benefits, sponsoring Catholic-faith formation programs and volunteering time through service-oriented activities.
Our council supports seminarians, world-wide, through the RSVP program. Holy Hour, where we spend an hour with our Lord and Savior through Eucharistic Adoration and Rosary prayers, is observed quarterly. We hold weekly prayer and Bible study sessions, furthering our understanding of our Lord and Savior. We organize, collect and distribute food to our local Page One center through our Food For Families program. We sell Christmas cards through our Keep Christ In Christmas (KCIC) program, support the Virginia Knights aiding the disadvantaged through our KOVAR program, and we support our local Page Life Center through our semi-annual ASAP campaigns. Twice this year, we were key in the support of the Page County Public School system’s hygiene locker program, and so much more.
Over this past fraternal year, our Food for Families, ASAP, KCIC and Helping Hands programs all broke new records in their effectiveness and outcomes.
Knights of Columbus is one of the world’s leading fraternal and service organization with over two million members in more than 16,000 parish-based councils. Membership in the Knights of Columbus is open to men 18 years of age or older who are practical (that is, practicing) Catholics in union with the Holy See.
