Measles outbreak highlights need for vaccination

Letter

Dear Editor:

There is a big measles outbreak in Texas, with over 350 cases so far. It has also spread to other states and the outbreak is expected to keep spreading. It has already spread to Maryland, so it is only a matter of time before it arrives in Virginia as well.

This outbreak is caused by people not vaccinating their children against measles. Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., the Secretary of Health & Human Services, who is a longtime anti-vaxxer, has encouraged parents to give their children mega doses of vitamin A instead of vaccinations. These parents learned the hard way that vitamin A doesn’t protect against measles, and megadoses of vitamin A can cause liver damage.

The measles vaccination is 97 percent effective, and was developed in 1963. I had measles in 1955, when I was 6 years old. I became deathly ill with pneumonia and nearly died. For years afterwards, I suffered the after effects of chronic ear infections. I wouldn’t wish measles on my worst enemy.

Please get vaccinated and get your kids vaccinated.

  1. Sally, you lied several times in your statements. First, RFK Jr is not an anti-vaxer. He is current on all of his vaccines except the Covid vaccine. Secondly, he has not advised people to take vitamin A instead of getting vaccines. He has advised that measles patients be treated with low doses of Vitamin A which is also what the WHO claims to be a beneficial supplement for patients with active measles infections to protect eye sight. Thirdly, there is zero proof that measles caused your chronic ear infections. Chronic ear infectious affect 5% of the US population. Lastly, by no means in measles a death sentence. It is a viral infection much like any viral infection.

      • Sherry,
“Kennedy did not cause the existing low rates of measles immunization that allowed the outbreak to begin and rapidly spread.”

This is a direct quote from the article you provided blaming him for a measles outbreak in Samoa. How propagandized do you have to be to call him anti-vax with a sentence like this in the article you think supports your argument. I’m sorry but I don’t want mercury and fetus material in the vaccines going into my body and btw, that’s what he’s trying to fight against. I’ll say it again, he’s current on all of his vaccines except the experimental Covid vaccine. Answer these questions Sherry, why are vaccine manufacturers exempt from civil lawsuits? Furthermore, it’s actually illegal for them to do exhaustive testing bc they are publicly traded companies and have a fiduciary responsibility to make money and since they can’t be sued by law, they legally can’t spend time and money doing the ethical testing they should be doing bc they’ll be sued and fined by the SEC. Make it make sense Sherry.

        • The article clearly stated he has a long history of being an anti vaxxer. There are a lot more credible articles about his anti vaxxed stand. Believe whatever you choose.

          • Your argument makes no sense. Think for yourself. If someone is current on his vaccines, how does it make it anti-vax. Reread my comment. All of his lawsuits are due to the unethical practices by vaccine manufacturers. They don’t provide proof of the limited testing they perform and they are protected from lawsuits. Ya know who actually pays for vaccine injuries? We the taxpayers do. There’s a government fund that pays out to victims of vaccine injuries. I’ll say it again. Make it make sense without providing some biased article.

  2. If you would have told me 20 years ago that the wisdom behind being vaccinated for measles, or well, anything else for that matter, would be open for debate, I would have not believed you. Wow, the internet surely has changed things.

    • Jeff’s done his own research. It’s just another harmless virus. Assume some ivermectin is all you need

      • What?!!,
You sound very much like the typical liberal. When presented with logic, you result to insults and more hyperbole. You don’t even know how to have a reasonable conversation. But that’s what I’ve come anticipate when talking to libs. I’ve got an idea. Why don’t you support criminal, illegal aliens, higher taxes, and more wars and see how that works out for you.

  3. What about the children getting killed by illegal aliens? Measles is nothing by comparison. I had measles for about two weeks in first grade in 1961. I got over it with no after effects. Measle is just something for the leftists to use to distract from all their nutty programs.
