Melvin Winford Bailey, 94, of Elkton, passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at Journey’s Crossing Assisted Living.
Mr. Bailey was born August 1, 1929, in the Weaver Hollow area of Page County and was the son of the late Arnce Ethan and Goldie Samuels Bailey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, June Ramey, whom he married on February 5, 1955; daughter, Dana Sue Bailey; sisters-in-law, Clara Janney and Gloria Comer; and a brother-in-law, Claude E. Ramey, Jr.
Melvin was an Army Veteran and worked in the building supply industry most of his life. He remained physically active and was rarely sitting still. He loved his lawn, garden, and cats. He attended Elkton Church of God, and was often seen praying and talking to the Lord. Mr. Bailey was a devout Christian and a man of God. His greatest wish was to go to Heaven and be reunited with his beloved wife and daughter. There was a tear in his eye as he passed from the joy of being reunited with his family.
He is survived by sister-in-law and caregiver, Dorothy Hurlock and husband, Bernard Sr., and sister-in-law, Shellie Ramey.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Thursday, December 21, 2023, at Elk Run Cemetery with Pastor Sam Sponaugle officiating.
Friends can pay their last respects from 12p.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday, December 20, 2023, and 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Thursday at Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton prior to service.
