LURAY, Aug. 22 — Mount Carmel Christian Academy hosted a volleyball Tip-Off Tournament on Aug. 22, welcoming teams for a full day of competitive volleyball. The Warriors opened their season in impressive fashion, battling their way to a first-place finish.
In the championship match, Mount Carmel faced Tandem Friends School of Charlottesville. The Warriors came out on top in a competitive four-set match, sealing the tournament championship with a 25-23 victory in the fourth and final set.
Sophomore Rebekah Shifflett led the Warriors’ attack in the championship match with 19 kills. Juniors Darbi Hunsberger and Haelyn Morris also turned in strong performances, with Hunsberger recording 29 digs and Morris contributing 29 assists.
The junior duo was recognized for their performances throughout the tournament. Morris was named to the All-Tournament Team, while Hunsberger earned Tournament MVP honors.
The tournament championship provided a strong start to the season for the Warriors as they look to build on last year’s success and make another run at the regional tournament.
