June 20, 1889 — Last Thursday evening Mr. Jacob Stirewalt, of New Market, and several ladies and gentlemen of New Market, attempted to cross the Hawksbill near the mill above town.
The stream was very full and still rising, and the swift current proved too strong for their horses and vehicles, which were carried down the creek nearly opposite the residence of Mr. Frank, where they were rescued by that gentleman and Mr. Mellville Long without injury.
