STANLEY, May 24 — With initial construction such as framing and roofing completed, interior work continues on the amphitheater being constructed in Ed Good Memorial Park.
Town Manager Terry A. Pettit stated that a major portion of the structure has been completed by the contractor Knight and Lucas Construction. Pettit said that construction has now entered the next phase, which includes finishing of the bathrooms, dressing rooms and installation of utilities.
During its May 12 meeting, the town manager presented the council with a report stating that the water line has been installed at the facility, and the sewer line and pump station have been staked off for installation. Final paperwork is being completed as required by Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative for the electrical system at the site. Pettit said that work should begin in a few weeks.
A ramp still needs to be completed in the rear of the building, according to Pettit’s May 12 report, and some grading work in front of the stage area.
Pettit also stated that the the major cost of the building has been offset by two large donations from Pioneer Bank and an anonymous donor. Donations are still being accepted toward the cost of the project and a plaque will be placed on the building with the names of all that contributed.
The town council is also currently discussing what the new facility might be named. It is expected to carry the name of its major donor (Pioneer Bank) in some fashion above the center of the stage. The structure is also expected to have a plaque containing the names of the members of the original Homecoming Committee.
The town manager also stated that the facility will be ready for this years Homecoming festival, which is slated for Wednesday, June 30 through Saturday, July 3.
