July 26, 1966 — Shades of the thirties were in evidence last Sunday as some 500 local citizens, officials of the George Washington National Forest and representatives of the original CCC Camp and Camp Roosevelt heard Rep. John O. Marsh dedicate the 13-acre area “for the future recreational needs of our people.”
The new facilities include 15 picnicking and 10 camping units, drinking water, flush toilets and paved roads. They have been constructed on the original site of Camp Roosevelt, the first Civilian Conservation Corps camp in the U.S.
