Non-profit raises $3,000 for community programs

LURAY, Feb. 17 — Page Alliance for Community Action (PACA) held its sixth annual Polar Bear Plunge for 65 participants on Saturday, Feb. 17 at Lake Arrowhead. Of the participants, 24 registered on the day of the event, despite cold temperatures and snow covering the ground.
“We had an amazing turnout,” said Megan Gordan, program coordinator for PACA.
About half of the participants walked away with prizes as local businesses donated about 30 items to giveaway. The non-profit raised a little over $3,000 from event registrations and sponsors. The funds will go toward PACA programs to promote healthy lifestyles across the community.
“We like to host events like the Polar Bear Plunge to not only provide something fun for our youth and families, but also to provide education and raise awareness for PACA’s mission to keep our youth and families healthy and substance free,” Gordon stated. “It is always great to see the community come together to make the event fun for everyone!
“Whether it was through prize donations, sponsorships, volunteering, providing hot chocolate, or just coming out to support the event… our community is amazing!”
