SHENANDOAH — The Page County Wrestling Team will be sending three girls to the VHSL Girls Open State Wrestling Tournament, this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 24-25, at Unity Reed High School in Manassas. This is the first time for this event, and it will be all six classifications wrestling together, all weight classes, and will consist of Class 1 through Class 6 competitors.
Representing Page County High School is:
• Kaylee Campbell at 112lb
“Kaylee Campbell will start off first, and she’s maybe someone that you don’t want to have to wrestle, as she has already wrestled in the boys VHSL State Wrestling Tournament in Salem, Virginia last weekend,” Coach Greg Martin said.
• Elizabeth Ramos at 170lb
“I look for Elizabeth Ramos to do well, this is her third year in wrestling, and has been a starter for me every year. She has plenty of experience and wrestling knowledge,” Coach Martin said.
• Mackenzie Painter at 225lb
“The one wrestler that’s going to make a name for herself is Mackenzie Painter… this girl is strong and her cardio is off the chart. I was so impressed to see her in the weight room — she benched 175 pounds, squats 345 pounds, and deadlifted 365 pounds,” Coach Martin said. “I look for her to do well this weekend. I think all three of my girl wrestlers are capable of getting on the podium, and earning all-state honors.”
