SHENANDOAH, March 17 — Page County’s bats have been lively in the opening week of the 2023 season, producing 14 hits and 11 runs during two wins at home. After opening up with an extra-inning Bull Run District win over Clarke, 3-2, last Monday, the Panthers closed out the week with a solid, 8-5, non-district win over Warren County on Friday.
Senior centerfielder Hayden Plum lead Page at the plate against Warren County with a 3-for-4 performance, including three RBI and one run scored. Senior catcher Everett Foltz went 2-for-3. Page County recorded nine hits on Friday, compared to only four for the Class 3 Wildcats.
Junior pitcher Jordan Foster picked up the win on the mound and fanned eight Warren County batters in just over four innings of work. Foster and junior Noah Lucas both hit doubles during the game, while Lucas and junior Sean Cave recorded the team’s other two RBI. Plum and senior Jacob Williams both had two stolen bases.
On Friday, Warren lead off with a run in the top of the first. Page followed with two in the bottom of the first and three runs in the second for a 5-1 lead. The Wildcats quickly responded with three runs in the third to close the gap at 5-4.
The Panthers then showed consistent offensive production by scoring a run in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. They held Warren to only one more run in the fifth to close out the 8-5 victory.
Page County now moves to 2-0 on the season. After being at home for their opening two games, the Panthers will hit the road this week traveling to Luray on Tuesday (7 p.m.) and Rappahannock on Friday (6 p.m.). Page will travel to Warren County and take on the Wildcats again next Monday.
