LURAY, May 14 — On Tuesday, Page County Public Schools announced that two new assistant principals will be joining the school division for the 2024-2025 school year. Craig Tutt will be serving Luray Elementary School, while Jennifer Hitt will be joining the Page County Middle School team.
Tutt, a Luray native and former principal of Springfield Elementary School, will be returning to Luray to serve as the assistant principal of Luray Elementary School. He will replace Ryan Mettinger, who is leaving LES to serve in a school division closer to his home. Tutt has had a wide range of experience in his career, serving as a Health/PE teacher in Virginia, and then a teacher, coach, athletic director, assistant principal, and principal in the Federal Way School District at Lakota Middle School in the Seattle area. He later served under the superintendent in the Federal Way School District as the Executive Director of Equity, Student, and Family Success.
He is currently serving as the athletic director, Dean of Students, and Director of Summer Programs at Roycemore School in Evanston, Illinois. Tutt will return to Luray to assume his position as assistant principal on July 1,2024.
Hitt will replace Matt Capuano, current assistant principal, who plans to retire at the end of this school year. Hitt holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology and Sports Studies and a Bachelor’s of Science in Health and Physical Education from Eastern Mennonite University, a Master’s of Education in Special Education and a Master’s in Education in Administration and Supervision from Averett University.
In her career, Hitt has taught special education, served as Compliance Coordinator at Charterhouse School, and as an administrator at the Minnick School. She has also coached basketball for Eastern Mennonite High School and brings a wealth of instructional, special education, and administrative experience, as well as an extensive background in working with students with behavioral challenges.
Hitt will also begin her position with Page County Middle School on July 1, 2024.
