LURAY — People Incorporated will host an upcoming community forum called Bridging the Digital Divide to hear directly from Page County residents about challenges to accessing broadband internet and digital devices.
The forum will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 20 at the Luray Meadows Community Center located at the Luray Meadows apartments at 123 Shelley Lane. The forum is open to the public with opportunities to be entered to win a raffle prize and food provided.
“This is the first step in an effort to collect data and feedback from community members about their experiences accessing internet and digital devices like computers, smartphones, and more,” said People Incorporated Vice President for Planning & Evaluation Kelli Smith.
Feedback collected during the forum will be used to help develop the statewide Commonwealth Digital Opportunity plan in partnership with the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development.
People Incorporated was awarded Digital Equity Act funds from DHCD earlier this year to assist in identifying barriers to broadband and digital device access for populations identified by the Digital Equity Act. This planning effort will address affordability of internet service and devices, technology skills, and online privacy.
Registration for the May 20 event is not required, but it is encouraged. Community members may register by visiting peopleinc.net/news and navigating to the registration page.
