Phil’s long shadow

February 9, 1961 — The consensus of opinion among the ground hog experts in this area is that the shadow of His Honor was seen last Thursday with a vengeance.

And just to prove his malice a 12-inch snow began falling early Friday morning to trap hundreds of people in their homes or places of business and foment general confusion and havoc.

About the time people had dug out of the weekend snow another one just as bad and wetter started about nightfall Tuesday and deposited about 12 inches before turning to half rain and snow Wednesday.

At time of going to press there was about 18 inches of packed snow on the level.
