NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
TOWN OF SHENANDOAH
TOWN COUNCIL
PROPOSED TOWN CODE RECODIFICATION
Pursuant to Sections 15.2-1433 and 58.1-3007 of the Code of Virginia, as amended, a public hearing will be held by the Shenandoah Town Council on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at 7:00 p.m., in the Town Hall, 426 First Street, Shenandoah, Virginia, for the purposes of considering a recodification of the Town Code. There are numerous changes to the Town Code. Changes to fees are as follows:
Section 2-208, Fee for Bad Checks: increasing from $35.00 to $50.00
Section 10-38, Dangerous or vicious dogs: obtaining a dangerous dog registration fee increasing from $50.00 to $150.00
Section 14-49, Swimming Pools fee: changing from $0.005/ft² and $15.00 electrical service in pool area, changing to fee schedule adopted by county.
Section 18-34, License fee and tax:
(3) financial, real estate and professional services changing from $0.35 per $100.00 of gross receipts to $0.58 per $100.00 of gross receipts
(9) Photographers changing from $10.00 per year to $30.00 per year
(11) Direct sellers, with total annual sales in excess of $4,000.00, $0.20 per $100.00 of total annual retail sales or $0.50 per $100.00 of total annual wholesale sales, whichever is applicable; changing to $0.20 per $100.00 of total annual retail sales or $0.05 per $100.00 of total annual wholesale sales, whichever is applicable
Section 50-184, Schedule of fees, charges, and expenses: change in fee schedule
Section 54-48, Charges for services, billings and collections: ADDING – Occupants or persons in charge of such premises shall be billed by the Town in the same manner as for water bills, subject to the same penalties as water bills and collectible in any manner authorized by law for the collection of debts due the Town.
Section 66-108, Assessment of license fee: changing to – There is hereby assessed to any person owning a motor vehicle normally garaged, stored or parked in the town starting on January 1 of each year a Town motor vehicle license fee.
Section 74-81, Fee for turning on water after cutoff: fee changing from $25.00 to $35.00.
Copies of the proposed recodification of the Code of the Town of Shenandoah are available for examination in the Shenandoah Town Hall, 426 First Street, Shenandoah, Virginia, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Citizens are encouraged to attend this public hearing to express their views.
Any hearing impaired individuals who need an interpreter must notify the town office at least seven (7) days prior to the public hearing.
