On Saturday, April 11, 2026, Rudy Alfred Guenthner, 86, of Luray, went to be with the Lord.

Born in Wildbad, Germany to Gottlieb and Anna Guenthner, Rudy grew up in hard times during the war. His family immigrated to the U.S. when he was about 13. 

He married the love of his life, Moria, with whom he shared 64 beautiful years of marriage filled with laughter, devotion, and unwavering partnership. Together, they had a blessed life.

Rudy graduated from Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania in 1962. There, he was a member of the Delta Upsilon fraternity. He played football both in high school and college.

Not only did he serve in the Army, but he was a successful businessman, first working 17 years for Equitable Life and then owner and operator of the Best Western Motel and Alexander’s Restaurant in Luray for 28 years.

He is survived by his wife, Moria and their seven children: Sharon and her husband Jack, Adriana and his daughter-in-law Anwelle, Diana and her husband Kevin, Danny and his wife Jamie, Julia and her husband Allen, Joseph and his wife Kayde, and Paul and his partner Aimee. He is also succeeded by 22 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, as well as four siblings, Waldy, Alfred, Evelyn and Ruth.

A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on April 25, 2026, at Mt. Carmel Regular Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Mike Nichols. Visitation will be open to all from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. The burial will immediately follow the funeral service and be held at Beahm’s Chapel Cemetery in Luray.

Arrangements are being handled by the Bradley Funeral Home in Luray, Va.
