MANASSAS, June 29-July 2 — After five games over four days, the Shenandoah 10U Babe Ruth All-Stars ended up as the Virginia state runner-up after a tough 1-0 loss to Manassas in the state championship on Sunday.
Shenandoah started the state tournament with two straight wins — 8-5, over Rockville on Thursday; and 11-2 over Wise on Friday. On Saturday, they would suffer their first loss to Manassas, 3-2, in an extended game that saw Shenandoah battle hard through nine innings.
However, the 10U All-Stars from Shenandoah bounced back and beat Rockville, 12-4, to advance to the state championship on Sunday. They lost the title game in another one-run contest with the host team Manassas at the E.G. Smith Baseball Complex.
In addition to being the state runner-up, the Shenandoah 10U Babe Ruth All-Stars also earned the state tournament’s Don Rose Memorial State Commissioner’s Sportsmanship Award.
