CLEMMONS, N.C. — The Shenandoah Rec League’s 12U All-Stars captured the 2022 Babe Ruth Softball Southeast Region championship on Friday, July 15 in Clemmons, North Carolina and are currently in Treasure Coast, Florida to participate in the 2022 Babe Ruth 12U Softball World Series.
Shenandoah’s 12U All-Stars took the regional softball tournament in dominating fashion, outscoring their opponents 60-4 over four games. The closest game came in the southeast region championship on Friday, when Shenandoah won 10-0.
The 12U All-Stars began regional action on Wednesday, July 13 when they defeated Peachtree from Crozet, Va. 17-2, followed by a 17-0 victory the next morning against Southwest Athletics, the host team from Clemmons, N.C. A Thursday evening game saw Shenandoah defeat Davidson County, N.C. 16-2. Shenandoah defeated Peachtree a second time for the region title.
Shenandoah’s 12U All-Stars reached the southeast regional after winning the Virginia state title on July 3, taking four of five games over a four-day stretch at the 2022 Babe Ruth Softball State Tournament in Wise, Va. In the state tournament, Shenandoah won their first two games by a combined margin of 41-4.
The competition will get tougher in Florida as a total of 14 teams are scheduled to compete in the World Series, with Opening Ceremonies planned for Thursday, July 21 and pool play beginning Friday, July 22. Five games during Pool Play will determine pairings in Bracket Play, which begins Monday, July 25. The final championship game is scheduled for Wednesday, July 27.
Teams began arriving and checking in at Treasure Coast, Florida on Tuesday, with a workout day planned on Wednesday.
Shenandoah plays its first World Series game at noon on Friday, July 22 at Halpatiokee Park against Hereford, and its second game that evening at 6 p.m. against Piedmonth Dynamite on the same field.
They are then scheduled to play at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 23 against Fern Creek and again at 6 p.m. on Saturday against Puerto Rico.
The last day of Pool Play continues Sunday, July 24 with Shenandoah playing at 8 a.m. against Madeira Beach Riptide at Pineapple Park.
