March 16, 1911 — Mr. R. Lee Taylor shot and killed Mr. Thomas Brown at Sperryville last Saturday.
Mr. Taylor is a justice of the peace, and Mr. Brown had formerly been a justice. The day of the shooting Mr. Taylor had fined Mr. Brown, which is said to have been the cause of the trouble.
It is stated that Brown had threatened the life to Taylor twice, the last time in Crigler’s store where the shooting occurred.
Two shots were fired, one taking effect near Brown’s heart, from which he soon died. The shooting is said to have been in self-defense.
The affair is greatly deplored.
Mr. Taylor is well and favorably known in Page and has the sympathy of all who know him in his unfortunate trouble.
