Age 92, Luray, Va.

Sue B. Hume, 92, of Luray, passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at the Life Care Center of New Market, following a long illness. 

Born July 1, 1931, in Renick, WV, she was the daughter of the late James Clark and Lula Renick Baber.

Sue graduated from Renick High School in 1948 and attended the University of Virginia School of Nursing, where she earned her degree as a registered nurse. Arriving in Luray in the 1960s, she worked at Page Memorial Hospital and later as the plant nurse for Wrangler in Luray.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Hume, who passed away in 2018; her brother, James Clark Baber, who died in 2002; and her sister, Betty Eyestone, who passed away in 2004.

She is survived by her son, David Hume and wife Sharon of Roanoke; her brother, Robert Baber of Hinton, WV; two sisters, Pat Sergent of Huntingtown, MD, and Virginia Dare Draughn and husband Clyde of Bowie, MD; her nieces and nephews, Maureen Parel, James Lee Baber, Alan Sergent, Lisa Draughn Russell and Kristi Draughn Harris; and several grand nieces and grand nephews.

Sue was a proud member of the Free Grace Baptist Church in Luray. She valued her church family as brothers and sisters in Christ.

Special thanks go out to her church friend of many years, Susan Aleshire of Luray; her dear friend, Peg Harvey of Luray; and the woman who supported Sue and her family, Janet Lawson of Stanley.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, February 27, at the Bradley Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, February 28, at the Morningside Cemetery in Renick, WV, by the Rev. Ron Carr.
