October 9, 1986 — Page County returned to the silent screen era this week as the Page Theatre closed its doors.
Manager Tony Thurston, who took over the business in March, said marginal profits did not justify the long hours he spent at the theater.
Thurston said proprietors of the two- screen cinema at 35 East Main Street can easily spend seven to 10 hours per day on the job and even more time on weekends. In addition to screening the films, Thurston said, booking movies and readying refreshments takes time.
Thurston said the theater made enough money to stay afloat, but not enough to make a good profit.
