Age 90, Luray, Va.
Thomas Edward Ponn, 90, of Luray, passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2023.
He was born on August 6, 1932, in Luray and was the son of the late Thomas Drexel Ponn and Nina Burner Ponn.
“Tommy” was a member of the Luray Church of the Brethren.
On November 25, 1982, he married the late Georgia Maxine Pettit Ponn.
He is survived by a daughter, Sandy Burner and husband John; a daughter-in-law, Marie Ponn; two stepsons, Terry Pettit and wife Ann, and Ricky H. Pettit and wife Donna; two grandchildren, Daniel Hinegardner and wife Monica, and Matthew Hinegardner and wife Sheena; his step great-grandchildren, Nick Pettit and wife Kelli, Jennifer Narozniak and husband Brian, Travis Pettit, Amy Pettit and fiancé Todd Dinges, Amber Lloyd and husband Justin, and Joshua Bosley; four great-grandchildren, Grayson, Brylee, Evelyn and Kyler; and six step great-grandchildren, Rylan, Reese, Hayden, Cora, Alexia and Shea.
He was preceded in death by son, David Edward Ponn; and a stepdaughter, “Jody” Pettit.
He worked for Page County Public Schools for more than half a century. He spent his life doing what he loved, driving kids. He drove a school bus wearing a cowboy hat and boots and was affectionately known as the “Cowboy Bus Driver.”
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Athletic Department at Luray High School.
