LURAY — The Page County Office of Economic Development and Tourism will spotlight industry partners, underscore visitation as an economic driver, and announce new efforts to establish Page County as a premier overnight destination during an inaugural county-wide tourism summit in Luray.
The Page County Tourism Summit, scheduled from noon to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28, at Luray Caverns’ Burner Barn, is aimed at involving, informing, educating and exciting tourism and hospitality partners in Page County. The summit will also give attendees the chance to meet with state, regional and local industry leaders and feature a roundtable discussion with panelists.
Speakers/panelists include Stephanie Lillard, Destination and Development Specialist for the Virginia Tourism Corp.; Helen Morton, Administrator of the Shenandoah Valley Travel Association and Director of Sales and Marketing for Shenandoah National Park’s concessioner Delaware North; and Bill Huffman, Chairman of the Tourism Division of the Luray-Page County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and Director of Marketing and Public Relations for the Luray Caverns Corp.
Additional speakers include members of the Page County Tourism Council, including Chairman J.D. Cave and District 2 representative Karen Riddle. Cofounder and Creative Director of The Downtown Creative, Mike Miriello, will also be featured as a panelist.
The June 28 summit will additionally serve as an introduction of Page County’s tourism team. In the past year, the Page County Economic Development and Tourism Office has expanded to include three full-time positions: Director of Economic Development and Tourism Nina Long Fox; Communications and Marketing Coordinator Rebecca Armstrong; and Economic Development and Tourism Specialist English Henry. The team members will discuss new and ongoing tourism efforts, including Page County’s marketing plan, initiatives and strategies.
“We believe it’s important that our community and tourism industry stakeholders are aware of our initiatives and plans moving forward,” said Fox. “It is also important that we hear from the stakeholders to ensure that our marketing plan and tourism efforts support their business ideas and goals.
“We hope our industry partners will come meet their tourism team and join our commitment to
support, showcase and enhance our community’s economic vitality.”
The Page County Tourism Summit is open to tourism-related businesses in Page County. A light lunch will be provided during the event. Space is limited. Those interested in attending should email English Henry at ehenry@pagecounty.virginia.gov by noon on Friday, June 24.
