July 17, 1986 — Luray firemen doused 60-foot flames from a fire which engulfed a large barn on Va. 615 near the Massanutten Mountain Monday night.
Luray Fire Chief Dan Seal estimated owner Ralph Davis’ losses at $100,000.
The 45-by-60 foot barn was aflame when firefighters were called to the scene at 7:11 p.m. According to Seal, the blaze engulfed 40 large rolls of hay, chicken feeders and lumber which was being stored for an impending remodeling job.
The intense heat from the blaze also ignited a 30-by-40 foot straw shed and a corn fielder across the road.
