MARKSVILLE, June 17 — Although Saturday afternoon wasn’t a bad day to sit out on the porch and enjoy the view, one local resident is glad he wasn’t home at all…much less on the front porch.
About 2:34 p.m. on Saturday, the Stanley Volunteer Fire Department was called to 529 Marksville Road for a fallen tree. No one was at the home of Clifton Lowery Jr. when the tree fell, but there was “quite a lot of damage to the front porch of the house,” according to Stanley Fire Chief Terry A. Pettit.
“It was a good thing that nobody was on the porch at the time or it could have been tragic,” Chief Pettit said.
Page County EMS, the Page County Sheriff’s Department and the Page County Building Inspector’s Office also responded to the scene. There were no injuries. The Stanley Fire Department remained on the scene for about an hour.
Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative (SVEC) was also called to repair an electrical line leading to the house that tree limbs hit, according to Pettit.
