‘Two Lights’ event April 18

Part of ongoing America250 celebration

Dear Editor:

On July 4, 2026, the United States will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. A nationwide initiative called America250, led by the U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission, including the American Legion Post #22, will participate to engage, educate and unite Americans for this patriotic and historic birthday.

The celebration kicks off on Friday, April 18 with the “Two Lights for Tomorrow” national event, remembering the code: “One if by land, two if by sea”. The commission and the American Legion are calling for two lights to be displayed in all public buildings, including state, county, and municipal buildings, schools, offices, churches, and individual homes. The lights are meant to honor and recall Paul Revere’s famous ride on April 18, 1775, which warned of the approaching British troops (“the Red Coats are coming”) prior to the battle of Lexington and Concord.

This “Two Lights for Tomorrow” event is meant create awareness of the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary and encouraging public programs, events and ceremonies.

The American Legion Post #22 will participate in the “Two Lights for Tomorrow” by displaying two lights in its front windows, and thus encourages every American to display two lights this Friday night, and to develop their own ideas for their own ways to celebrate our nation’s Semiquincentennial.

Your story is America’s story and Americans from all walks of life are sharing theirs in response to America’s Invitation. Your reflections on our past, present, and future are helping us create the most inclusive commemoration in history.

Share your story with the commission at https://america250.org/share-your-story .

This will be a unique opportunity for our Page County citizens to share their individual stories and their hopes and dreams for the future of our country. Please feel free to share your plans for this exciting, once-in-a lifetime celebration.

Together, these stories will create a portrait of America’s first 250 years. Go to alpost22@yahoo.com to share your special 250th celebration ideas.
