The Independent, a British online publication with 10 million followers on Facebook, headlined “Trump nominated U.S. Attorney mysteriously resigns after just a month on the job.” https://www.the-independent.com/news/world/americas/us-politics/todd-gilbert-us-attorney-virginia-trump-b2811723.html
Harrisonburg’s Daily News Record headline was “Gilbert’s resignation as U.S. Attorney takes Kaine, Warner by surprise.” https://www.dnronline.com/news/politics_and_government/gilberts-resignation-as-u-s-attorney-takes-kaine-warner-by-surprise/article_a8590760-bd42-5565-b54a-8642d498ccbb.html
Neither provided an answer to the question above.
The Roanoke Times wrote that after Robert Tracci was forced to be Todd’s First Assistant U.S. Attorney, Todd, in an act of defiance, appointed Zachary Lee as his “Senior Counsel to the United States Attorney and Executive Assistant United States Attorney.” That insignificant act of insubordination supposedly forced Todd’s resignation. https://roanoke.com/news/local/government-politics/article_d7720a91-0946-4cec-80e7-20cc2ce86061.html
I don’t buy it. No one has gone on record as to why. Not Todd, not Robert Tracci, not Attorney General Bondi, and not the very man who nominated Todd for the job, President Donald Trump.
I don’t claim to know the answer, but I have some questions:
Why would Todd so quickly resign from a position he was nominated to by President Donald Trump himself? He only should have done so if he was convinced that President Trump himself was prepared to fire him.
If President Trump himself was prepared to fire him, what did Todd do to deserve it? Because Todd gave some long-time Assistant U.S. Attorney, Zach Lee, a fancy new title? Again, I don’t buy that the President of the United States was prepared to do something so petty.
Was it instead because Todd wasn’t willing to do anything with the long buried Marvin Bush/Mark Warner files from the Battle Creek Landfill corruption in Page County back in the 2000’s?
Might that have been because Democrat Mark Warner recommended Todd for the job to begin with?
Or could it have been because Todd vigorously campaigned for Allen Louderback for the House of Delegates in 2001 and 2003, when Todd knew that Louderback chaired the Page County Board of Supervisors when the corruption began? (In 2005, Louderback chose not to run for reelection after possibly receiving a target letter from U.S. Attorney John Brownlee, handing his seat to Todd.)
Or because the guy who arranged the appointment of Todd, Richard Cullen, Counselor to Governor Glenn Youngkin, masterminded the entire cover-up on behalf of the Bush Administration 20 years ago?
Note that Cullen’s son Tom was appointed U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Virginia in 2017 and U.S. District Court Judge for the Western District of Virginia in 2020. Cullen’s son-in-law, Erik Siebert, was appointed U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia earlier this year.
In the end, we really don’t need anyone to answer any of the questions above. We just need to demand that the long buried Bush/Warner files be prompty released to the public.

Mr Gilbert owes us an explanation. Who’s more important?
“You don’t work with Trump, you work for him..” Who knows, we might never know…Mango Messiah regularly hires the “best and brightest” and then a few months later acts as if “who hired this guy?” See Jerome Powell for example.
“Barry Lyndon” Powell admitted last week in a speech that Trump was right about tariffs. “At most, tariffs create a one-time adjustment in prices, not the kind of runaway spiral that demands punishing rate hikes. And even that one-time bump may be negligible if, as we have long argued, foreign exporters – not American consumers – shoulder most or all of the burden.” FoxNews. Powell was wrong at first, but at least he uses his real name and not that of a movie character that never existed.
MAGA under Trump echoes the Bolshevik movement in Russia and Mao’s Cultural Revolution in China because each cloaks itself in populist rhetoric while dismantling institutions and concentrating power in the hands of a single leader. Like Lenin’s cadres or Mao’s Red Guards, MAGA frames itself as the “real Americans” reclaiming the nation from corrupt elites, while in practice demanding loyalty tests, weaponizing polarization, and eroding the rule of law. Trump’s model is fundamentally non-capitalist: he pushes for state control of economic life, dictating which industries thrive or fail, while extracting bribes, kickbacks, and payoffs from private actors as the price of doing business. History shows that the most prosperous and wealthiest nations are not run by extraction-plundering strong men, but by open democracies governed through laws, regulations, and transparent institutions. That contrast underscores why MAGA’s trajectory is so dangerous: it abandons the foundations of prosperity for the politics of plunder.
“Barry”. Sure thing buddy. You’ve got it figured out. What AI Chat app do you use?
A lot of us have it figured out. Don’t need AI to show us. It’s clear as the nose on your face if you turn off Fox News.
Sherry Ford. I’ve never used illegal drugs. Maybe that’s the problem? “Traders bet against recession as Trump’s economic policies continue to show remarkable strength.” A headline on FOX BUSINESS. Gasoline is also at its lowest price on Memorial Day weekend since 2020. At Gainesville, VA today I filled up at $2.87.
Gas prices might be down but not sure the president can manipulate those. Have you gone food shopping lately, or made a health insurance payment?
I have. It’s not a problem and I survive on only SS. I don’t eat with a shovel.
https://www.foxnews.com/media/trump-administration-touts-low-labor-day-gas-prices-rising-wages-workers TRUMP can’t manipulate gas prices directly but can remove the choke points the Democrats threw up to increase energy payments to enemies of the US, so we can be independent.

Returning to the topic of the letter…
The longer Mr Gilbert is silent, I predict he’s going to higher office in Washington.
Looks like he’s being demoted: https://rocktownnow.com/news/218812-page-county-commonwealths-attorney-hires-todd-gilbert/
