Donations are the continual support for many nonprofits, the generosity of the local community through individuals, churches, civic groups, and other agencies enable us to continue our vital work. Donations and grants fund our mission programs to provide emergency rental, utility, heating fuel assistance, and food through our pantries.
Grant funds come from a variety of sources, through public and private foundations and endowments, corporate giving funds, and other agencies. These grants are often competitive grants, where multiple agencies like ours must put extensive work into writing proposals, budgets, goals, and provide financial and impact reports to qualify for or be awarded funding. Most are annually or quarterly available to apply for and receive.
Monetary support from individuals, churches, and businesses are reliant on the generosity of the donors, who find the agency’s goals align with their interests in giving. We use websites like GuideStar to ensure that donors know about the work we do, and our transparency on how their funds are spent. This type of support is our most frequent.
Physical donations come in many forms and are utilized in different ways. Food donations come from businesses, individuals, churches, and food drives. These items are put directly in our pantry system to distribute to clients seeking assistance with food insecurity.
Donations such as clothing and home goods are collected, sorted, and sold through our thrift stores to generate revenue, in which the funds are used to cover our operating costs. Once our operating costs are covered, this funding is then put into our mission programs. Clothing donations that go through our thrift store system can also be used for our Voucher Program, which provides free clothing to individuals or families in crisis.
Donations are vital to every nonprofit, enabling each one to continue its mission to provide the multitude of services provided to help those facing crisis situations or receiving support that it critically needed. We appreciate the support through these donations to give us the ability to help others in critical need.
