April 10, 1986 — The Luray A&P Food Store is among 26 stores in the supermarket chain reportedly marked for closing, according to a report in the Harrisonburg Daily News-Record Wednesday.

A story by the newspaper’s staff writer Randy Murphey noted that A&P officials in Richmond and Montvale, N.J., remained silent Tuesday about the planned closing of the 26 Virginia stores.

The closings reportedly included stores in Harrisonburg, Front Royal, Staunton and Waynesboro in addition to Luray in the Shenandoah Valley.
