April showers deliver less than half of average rain

Year-to-date rainfall already 2.5 inches below average through four months

STANLEY — Total rain for the month was 1.30 inches, or 1.71 inches below the April average of 3.01 inches. Measurable rain was recorded on 12 days during the month, same as the 57-year April average. Total year-to-date rain is 8.68 inches, or 2.50 inches below average.

The wettest April on record was 2011, with 6.40 inches of rain. The driest April occurred in 1985, with only 0.51 inches of rain recorded.

January to April, year-to-date rainfall totals for the past three years are shown below. The 57-year average is 11.18 inches. The 2025 January to April rainfall total is tracking with 2023.

• 2023 — 8.70 inches; -2.48 inches below average
• 2024 — 11.44 inches; +0.26 inches above average
• 2025 — 8.68 inches; -2.50 inches below average

Temperatures for the month of April were above average. The mean temperature for the month was 58.6 degrees. The 57-year average mean temperature for April is 55.3 degrees.

The average afternoon high temperature for the month was 69.2 degrees, or 2.3 degrees above the 57-year average high of 66.9 degrees. High temperatures for April climbed into the 80s on seven days, the 70s on 10 days, the 60s on four days, the 50s on six days and only in the 40s on three days during the month. The high for the month was 86 degrees on April 29.

The warmest April was in 1974, where the average afternoon high temperature was 71.7 degrees. The coolest April on record was in 1987, where the average afternoon high temperature was 60.7 degrees.

The average daily low temperature for the month was 48 degrees, or 4.3 degrees above the 57-year average low of 43.7 degrees. Low temperatures for the month were down into the 20s on one day, the 30s on four days, the 40s on 13 days, the 50s on eight days, the 60s on three days and in the 70s on one day during the month. The low for the month was 27 degrees on April 9.

The peak wind gust for the month was 40 mph on April 19.

Records broken during the month of April:

• April 19 — maximum low temperature of 71 degrees; previous record of 63 degrees in 1994.
• April 20 — maximum low temperature of 63 degrees; previous record of 61 degrees in 2004.
