February produces 8 inches of snow and nearly 4 inches of rain

STANLEY — After a dry summer and fall, January and February have produced nearly 20 inches of snow and more than six inches of rain. Snowfall for the month of February was 8 inches, or 1.7 inches above the February average of 6.3 inches. That followed 11.5 inches of snow in January.

The 57-year average total winter snowfall is 24.3 inches. Total snowfall for the winter of 2024-2025 is 20 inches, with nearly all of that in the past nine weeks.

Total rain and snow melt for the month of February was 3.79 inches, or 1.28 inches above the February average of 2.51 inches. The wettest February was 1998, with 6.56 inches of rain and snow melt; and the driest occurred in 1977, with only 0.37 inches of rain recorded.

Temperatures for the month of February were slightly above average. The mean temperature for the month was 38.6 degrees. The 57-year average mean temperature for February is 37.3 degrees.

The average afternoon high temperature for the month was 47.9 degrees, or 0.8 degree above the 57-year average high temperature of 47.1 degrees. High temperatures for February climbed into the 60s on nine days, the 50s on four days, the 40s on seven days, the 30s on six days and only in the 20s during two days of the month. The high for the month was 66 degrees on Feb. 28.

The warmest February on record was in 1976, where the average afternoon high was 59.1 degrees. The coldest February on record was in 1979, where the average afternoon high was only 34.5 degrees.

The average daily low temperature for the month was 29.4 degrees, or 2 degrees above the 57-year average low 27.4 degrees. Low temperatures for the month were down into the teens on 10 days, the 20s on 10 days, the 30s on 13 days and in the 40s on two days during the month. The low for the month was 15 degrees on Feb. 19.

The peak wind gust for the month was 56 mph on February 16.

Records broken during February 2025:

• February 6 — single day rain of 1.84 inches; previous record of 1.64 inches in 2010.
