Age 84, formerly of Elkton and Luray, Va.

Barbara Ann “SiSi” Payne, 84, formerly of Elkton, Va. died on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at Martha Jefferson Hospital from complications with congestive heart failure, diabetes and kidney failure.

She was born on Dec. 14, 1937, and was a daughter of the late Joseph Minor Payne Sr. and Nannie Mae Hindman Payne.

Ms. Payne grew up in Falls Church and graduated in 1956 from Falls Church High School. She had resided in several locations including southeast D.C., Landover, Md., and relocated to Luray in 1972 and moved to Elkton in 1985.

Ms. Payne worked as a secretary for Mann’s Potato Chips and after relocating to Luray she worked the BBQ Pit, Riverbend Farm School and Massanutten Resort. In December 2010, she retired after 25 years of service as a reservations manager for Massanutten Resort.

She is survived by her daughter, Peggy Ann Silvious Dovel of Front Royal; a son, Dennis Mark Silvious of Luray; a sister, Joan McKenzie of Timberville; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Charles McGraw Silvious of Front Royal; a brother, Joseph Minor Payne Jr.; and her fiance’, Paul F. Comer.

A celebration of life will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 9 at the Luray VFW Post 621 by Pastor Mike Lemay. Masks are optional. A light meal will follow the memorial.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that attendees bring a non-perishable food item for the local food pantry, or make a donation to a local food pantry.
