May 3, 1962 — During the severe electrical storm Tuesday evening of this week, the large bank barn on the Mahlon Brubaker farm in the Massanutten section west of Luray was struck by lightning and destroyed by the resulting fire.
The Luray Fire Department was successful in keeping the flames from spreading in other outbuildings and the nearby dwelling.
A Luray fireman said yesterday that some farm machinery was pulled out of a shed attached to the barn and was saved, but a large quantity of hay, straw and other machinery were lost.
