March 15, 1962 — The Luray High School baseball squad of 1962 will begin outdoor practice on Monday, March 6, under coaches Bob Crews and Sam White. This will give Luray two weeks to get ready for the opening game of the season.
Regulars returning from last year’s team are: Charles Bauserman, pitcher-infielder; Tommy Broyles, first baseman- pitcher; Wayne Nichols, shortstop; Jim Triplett, second baseman; Petie Campbell, third baseman; J.R. Ponn, outfielder; and Wayne Yowell, outfielder.
Luray High lost two of its most capable players through graduation last June in pitcher Steve Darnell and catcher Earl Embrey.
