Age 91, Elkton, Va.
Betty Jean Meadows Hensley, 91, of Elkton, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 30, 2025. Betty was born in the Jollett area of Page County on April 25, 1934, and was the daughter of the late Granville W. Meadows and Hilda Samuels Meadows.
Betty was a member of Mt. Olivet Christian Church where she taught Sunday School for many years and served as Sunday School Secretary. She graduated from Montevideo High School class of 1952. She was a child care provider to 76 children for over forty years. She loved to work in lawn and garden. Betty was known for her sewing and working puzzles. Betty was the last remaining member of her immediate family.
On August 22, 1953, she married Leo Hensley, who preceded her in death on January 30, 2000.
She is survived by a son, Gregory Hensley and wife, Angie of Crimora; daughter, Tamara “Tammy” Harris and husband, Carroll of Elkton; grandchildren, Bryce Good and husband, Chuck, Evan Hensley, McKenna Harris, all of Elkton, Kayla Ferguson and husband, Nick of Manassas; great-grandchildren, Adalyn, Everly and Maddex Good, all of Elkton; sisters-in-law, Naomi Meadows, Diane Meadows and Irene Hensley of Elkton, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Earl, Ronnie, Donnie and Malcolm Meadows (infant), and sisters, Mary Baugher, Mable Smith and Myrtle Marie Meadows (infant).
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 5, 2025, at Mt. Olivet Christian Church in Elkton with Pastor Wayne Wright officiating. Interment will follow at Elk Run Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton.
