South River falls

July 28, 1962 — Michael Renfro, 13, of Greenfield, Ind., vacationing in the Shenandoah National Park, is recovering in the Page Memorial Hospital from effects of a bite of a copperhead.

On Monday morning Michael suffered a fall over some rocks and when his hand began to swell it was thought he had suffered a fracture. He was brought to the hospital Monday afternoon for treatment.

When the hand was checked, no fracture was found although swelling continued and it was discovered that the boy had been bitten by the snake as he fell. Snake-bite serum was administered and treatment given. This is the third snake bite treated in the hospital this year.
