LURAY, Oct. 11 — Last week the Page County Recreation Department opened registration for its boys basketball league for the first time in three years. The recreational offering has been dormant since the 2019-20 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Registration will be open through Friday, Nov. 18, except for grades 6 through 8. Middle school students who would like to participate may register after middle school and junior varsity team tryouts are completed.

Cost for participation in the 2022-23 season will be $40 per child. A discount of $5 per child will be offered for households registering three or more children. Online payment options are available ($2 additional fee), as well as traditional cash or check options. Payments may also be mailed to: Attn: Recreation Department, 103 South Court Street, Luray, Va. 22835.

Registration for the upcoming boys basketball season for grades K-8 may be done online or in person at the department’s office in the Page County Government Center on South Court Street.

The girls recreational basketball season will commence after the conclusion of the boys season.

The league also needs coaches in all divisions. Those interested should reach out to Recreation Program Coordinator Andrew Good at Agood@pagecounty.virginia.gov or call (540) 843-3410.

“We are excited to bring basketball back and I know many of you have been looking forward to it,” Good said in an Oct. 4 Department Facebook post. “I get a lot of questions about schedule, and I don’t know what it will look like until we get closer and I see how many kids we have signed up. Girl’s Basketball will follow the Boy’s and registration will begin around the beginning of December.”

The boys season kicks off Monday, Dec. 5.
