Brenda Kay Monger Hensley, 73, of Shenandoah, passed away unexpectedly after a long and difficult health battle on Monday, May 4, 2026.

Ms. Hensley was born on December 27, 1952, in Rockingham County and was the daughter of the late Guy Everett Monger Sr. and Arvilla Catherine (Lam) Monger.

Brenda dedicated many years of her life to working as a manager for the Avis O. Comer VFW Post #8613, where she also proudly served as President of the Ladies Auxiliary. She later spent several years working as a cook at Rudy’s Diner before retiring. While she valued her work deeply, Brenda found her greatest joy and true calling in being a mother and grandmother, roles she cherished with all her heart. She also had a love for music like no other. Brenda will be remembered for her strength, her kind and caring spirit, and the deep love she shared with her family and friends.

She enjoyed camping with her brother Bruce, spending time with friends, and visiting Colonial Beach. Brenda especially treasured the moments spent laughing with loved ones and making memories with those closest to her. Her warmth, resilience, and devotion to family will never be forgotten.

In addition to her parents, Brenda was preceded in death by her beloved son, Brendan Lee Hensley, and her cherished brother, Bruce Monger.

She is survived by her daughter, Tiffany Nichole Monger and fiancé, Adam Keister, of Shenandoah; her granddaughters, Kaylee Rain Monger and Jessica Lee Hensley, both of whom she raised and loved as her own daughters; Jessica’s significant other, Miller Price; her great-grandsons, Wyatt Smith and Brendan Price; her sister-in-law, Fonda Breeden; her dear friends, Genia Bell, Susan Chandler, and Lisa Davis; and her faithful companion, “Mookie,” also known as “Russell.” 

The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 24, 2026 at 4 pm at The Rec Center located at 630 W Main St, Luray, VA 22835. 

Burial will be held privately at a later date.

Brenda’s family sincerely appreciates the love and support shown during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to assist with funeral expenses may be made in her memory through Kyger Funeral Home.
