August 23, 1962 — The Stanley baseball club of the Massanutten League kept alive their hopes of tying Luray for first place in the regular season as they topped the local club, 7-0, in what was probably Luray’s worst game of the year.
The locals committed seven errors, all of them costly, and could collect but three hits off Cecil Brubaker, catcher turned pitcher.
Bill Wood took the tough loss for Luray, allowing five hits, all of them of the scratch variety. All of the hits were touched by an infielder. Wood walked but two and fanned 11 and allowed but one earned run.
Cecil Brubaker allowed only three hits, walked three, hit one batsman and fanned five.
