LURAY, Sept. 23 — In the temporary absence of first team All-Region senior Brady Jenkins on Friday night, Luray freshman running back Cason Bryant took advantage of his opportunity against the Hawks of Skyline. Bryant took the first play from scrimmage 62 yards for a touchdown and finished the night as the Bulldogs’ leading rusher with 120 yards on 10 carries.

Although the freshman has received few touches this season, Bryant has bolted for several long touchdown runs, like his 62-yard sprint at Skyline. The young running back had an equally impressive run of 70 yards for a touchdown three weeks ago against Buffalo Gap, and a 12-yard dash to the end zone against rival Page last week.

Bryant adds depth to an already dynamic duo in Jenkins and fellow senior Kenny Frye. Luray’s ground game is averaging more than 300 yards per game, with 350 rushing yards Friday night against Skyline.

Luray cruised to a 50-23 non-district win at Skyline to remain undefeated at 4-0. However, that perfect record will be put to the test this Friday night as the Cougars of Stuarts Draft — who are also 4-0 — will visit Bulldog Field for a matchup that should tell many in the region who will be in a better position to challenge Central or Strasburg for a Region B title.

The PVN Sports crew will be accompanying the NFHS livestream this Friday night at Bulldog Field between Luray and Stuarts Draft, with pre-game breakdowns starting at 6:50 p.m.
