LURAY, May 26 — Coaches from across the Bull Run District voted last week for their 2023 All-District selections in spring sports. Honorees were announced following the conclusion of district tournaments on Thursday, May 25.

SOFTBALL

Page County High School’s softball team (21-3) was prominent among the All-Bull Run selections, with three second team and three first team honorees, along with the “Player of the Year’.

Junior pitcher Bailee Gaskins was named the 2023 Bull Run District “Player of the Year,” as well as being a first team selection at pitcher. Division I-Radford commit Jocelyn Rinker earned first team All-District at first base, while junior outfielder Arianna Roudabush also earned first team honors.

Second team All-District selections from Page include junior third baseman Savannah Shifflett, sophomore catcher Emma Lucas, and at-large selection junior Adryn Martin.

East Rockingham matched Page County for the most All-District selections at six. Page captured the Bull Run’s regular season title in a walk-off win over East Rock on May 19. One week later, it was another walk-off win that captured the Bull Run tournament title over Clarke. Page now awaits the winner of the Buckingham/East Rock quarterfinal, to see who they host in Thursday’s Region 2B semifinal.

BASEBALL

For the first time in many years, it was the Luray Bulldogs who had a good showing among All-Bull Run selections in baseball, while the Page County Panthers were surprisingly snubbed — with no selections. Several Panthers had a solid season, especially at the plate, and their absence seems odd — and the added absence any Panther is highly unusual.

The Bulldogs had one first team selection in junior designated hitter Cameron Weaver. Luray then earned five second team honorees, including junior first baseman Christian Lentz, freshman second baseman Conner Hilliard, senior pitcher Trevor Griffith, and sophomore pitcher Landon Vile, who also earned second team honors as an At-Large selection as well.

The Bull Run District’s “Player of the Year” was Madison County senior first baseman Kody Dobyns.

The Bulldogs (10-14) fell in the first round of both the Bull Run and Region 2B tournaments, while Page County (11-13) finished as Bull Run runner-up after a one-run walk-off loss to East Rock on May 25. The Panthers now await the winner of the Buckingham/Clarke quarterfinal on Wednesday, for Thursday’s Region 2B semifinal.

SOCCER

Five Bulldogs and two Panthers earned All-District honors in girls soccer. Luray had two first team honorees in junior defender Summer Forder and junior at-large selection Savannah Owens. Page County’s senior goalie Montana Foltz also earned first team honors.

Page County sophomore Emma Babb was a second team All-District selection at forward. Luray’s three second team honorees include sophomore Kate Taglauer at forward, junior Hazel Parlett at midfielder, and senior Trinity Hasse at goalie.

The Bull Run District’s “Player of the Year” was Clarke’s junior midfielder Madison Toone. Clarke (19-0) won the Bull Run tournament title game, 6-0, over Luray. Both teams play in the Region 2B semifinals on Wednesday and could face off Friday in the Region 2B championship.

In boys soccer, both Luray and Page earned one second team selection each — Page County freshman forward Dawson Richards and Luray senior defender Michael Hite.

The Bull Run District’s boys soccer “Player of the Year” was Clarke’s junior midfielder Calloway Beckett. Clarke won the Bull Run tournament and is projected to win the Region 2B title as well.
