December 13, 1990 — John and Nancy Rust, operators of Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park Camp Resort, east of Luray, have been singled out for their outstanding contributions to quality camping.
The Rusts have been named “Operators of the Year” for the operation of the 150-site Jellystone Camp Resort located east of Luray on U.S. 211.
The couple has owned and operated the campground since 1972.
The Rusts were recognized for their “continuous efforts of setting and maintaining the highest standards in the Jellystone system.”
The award was presented by legendary animator Bill Hanna, who created Yogi Bear and hundreds of other popular cartoon characters with his partner, Joe Barbera.
