Colonel George Holdaway, 84, of Luray, VA passed away May, 19, 2021 at Blue Ridge Hospice Inpatient Center.

Colonel George was born in 1937 in Loudon County VA, to the late Andrew and Ola Mae Holdaway. As a youth he was known as CG and George as an adult. George had 2 passions in life, his love of country music, he was a self-taught musician who loved to entertain a crowd playing the guitar, steel guitar, banjo or mandolin. He had a band called Stringdusters and they often played in the Outer Banks, NC. George’s second passion was fishing anytime he could, fresh water or saltwater. 

George married Jean Kent on May 3, 1974 and they were married for 44 years, Jean preceded George in death.

Surviving are George’s children, Penny E. Valley of Herndon, VA, Virginia Craun of Stephens City, VA, Tim Holdaway and wife Becky of Ashburn, VA, Tony Holdaway of Manassas, VA, Kevin Ball and wife Lucille of Warrenton, VA, Greg Ball and husband Kirk of Washington DC, Mike Ball and wife Jennifer of Warrenton, VA; grandchildren, Alisa Miller of Ashburn, VA, Tony Holdaway of Leesburg, VA, Jesse Holdaway of Reston, VA, Rebecca Valley of Herndon, VA, Nick Valley of Herndon, VA, Gracie Craun of Stephens City, VA, Andrew A. Ball of Linden, VA and Shawn W. Ball of Winchester, VA; 9 great grandchildren; sisters, Carrie Mae Thorpe of Powells Point, NC, Eva Popkins of Herndon, VA and Ruth Williams of Manassas, VA.

George was preceded in death by his wife, Jean, parents, grandson, Ryan Holdaway, sister, Geneva Ringer and brother Paul Holdaway.

A memorial service for Jean and George will be held in September.

Arrangements are being handled by the Omps Funeral Home, where comments may be left on their Tribute Wall.
