Comer brothers sign with Senators

June 15, 1962 — The Washington Senators on Thursday of last week signed Wayne and Buddy Comer, two brothers from Shenandoah in Page County, for what the club said were “substantial bonuses.” The two brothers were signed by Washington scout George McQuinn.

Wayne, who is 18, will report to Raleigh of the Class B Carolina League. He is an outfield- catcher. Buddy, 19, will report to Middleboro of the Appalachian Rookie League.

Wayne was outstanding at Page County High School during the past season in football and basketball under coach Donnie Dofflemyer, and in baseball under coach Carroll Jay. Buddy was a star athlete at Shenandoah High School before entering Bridgewater College.
