62-year volunteer firefighter to lead 4 p.m parade during Shenandoah Memorial Festival; lots of activities planned Friday and Saturday

SHENANDOAH — Bobby Comer Sr. will serve as the Grand Marshal of the annual Town of Shenandoah Memorial Festival Parade, which begins at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 24 and runs down Maryland Avenue and onto First Street in Shenandoah.
Comer has served as a volunteer with the Shenandoah Volunteer Fire Company for 62 years. The parade is just one of many events set for Shenandoah’s annual Memorial Festival celebration.
On Friday, May 23, the Shenandoah Volunteer Fire Company will utilize their Carnival Grounds near WigWam Village playground from 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. for food, games, and live music. A cruise-in will be held on First Street from 6 to 9 p.m. A flag retirement ceremony is planned starting at 7 p.m.at Veterans Park on Virginia Avenue.
On Saturday, May 24, a yard sale/craft show/vendor show will be at KVK on Quincy Avenue from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Also, at KVK, will be the car/truck/tractor show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Shenandoah Community Library will have a book sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Memorial Walk is scheduled on the grounds of the Shenandoah VFW at 10 a.m. followed by the Town’s annual Memorial Ceremony at 10:15 a.m. inside the Shenandoah VFW Avis O Comer Post 8613 on Varina Avenue.
A petting zoo will be setup at the Shenandoah Landing & River Park on Morrison Road from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the Children’s Parade will also take place at the Shenandoah Landing & River Park at 1 p.m.
From 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., the Shenandoah Volunteer Fire Company will be back at the Carnival Grounds for more food, games, and live music.
