County rejects rezoning for bottled water plant

March 14, 1991 — The Page County Board of Supervisors denied rezoning some 222 acres near Shenandoah from agricultural to industrial Monday.

Attorney Robert Janney asked for two months to draft an additional proposal for his clients, Asad Ali Asad and Afaf Asad Ali Asad. The Asads planned to place a bottled water plant on some 20 acres of their property, formerly known as the Floyd Eppard farm, but wanted the entire acreage rezoned for future industrial development.

Janney said Monday that there was no place for industrial development near the Town of Shenandoah and that potential buyers could not be persuaded to purchase the land unless it was rezoned.

“We need to look closely at the economic reality to see if we can get by on 20 acres,” Janney said just prior to the board’s vote denying the rezoning of the entire tract.
